Homeowners Associations: What You Need to Know
Posted on: Friday, April 24th, 2020There are those who will curse Homeowners Associations, while others will praise what they do. However, for those who are looking to move soon and aren’t really sure what these are, then you may find that this could be a deal or no-deal type of situation when you find a home in one of these areas. We want to clear up a few things so that when you move, there are no surprises at your new dream home!
So basically, a Homeowners Association is going to have rules for your property. And you are going to be paying dues to the HA for living in the area. Yes, you may be paying a mortgage on the property, but you still have to abide by these rules. What is important to note is that the Homeowners Association is often run by one member in the neighborhood and board of those who live here. Thus, the rules can vary from one HA to another HA.
What can they state that you do or don’t do? For example:
- You may be told that you cannot have a small yard building in your backyard unless it matches the construction material of the home.
- You may have to keep your yard mowed to a certain level.
- There may be a noise ordinance that goes into effect at a certain time.
- You may have to avoid planting certain types of plants in your front yard and the like.
So, is moving into an area in which a HA is the best choice for you? If you are someone that does not like being told what to do and doesn’t follow rules very well, then probably not. However, if you want to live in an area in which everyone is made to keep things so and so, and this is how you like it, then this could be a great option for you.
Remember, while you may be ready to move, be sure to check out the rules that the HA has in place and even talk to some current residents on what they experience. This way you know what your new home will be like if you decide to go this route. Whether you are moving into a community that has an HA or not, Dunmar Moving is here to make it happen!
