Moving Your Backyard with You…Can It Be Done?

Leaving a home is more than just leaving the brick and mortar of the house. You are also leaving your neighbors and your backyard. For many people they have made their backyard into a sort of oasis that is calming, it has memories that cannot be replaced, and it may be one of the reasons why they loved their home to begin with. That brings to question: Can you move your backyard with you?

The simple answer is yes you can move some elements of your backyard with you. However, this may not be as easy as you think! We have outlines some of the more common elements found in a backyard that you may want to take to your new home and all that goes into moving these!

Playground and other Items

If you have a backyard that has a massive playground or jungle gym in it, you may want to move it with you especially if your kids still play on this. However, be sure that you did not agree to leave this in the real estate agreement! If you can take it with you, the good news is that the professional movers you hire may be able to move this for you. They will have to dismantle it, but as professionals, this is no big deal. You just need to weigh whether the cost of bringing it with you is worth it.

A Backyard Shed

Many people want to take their sheds with them. This is going to be an entirely different type of move if you do this. And you will more than likely hire building movers to do this. And in the end, it may not be worth it. Plus, remember that the shed may be one of the reasons that people have purchased your home, so it may need to remain.

The Garden

If you have a beautiful garden, you can take some plants with you. However, you will have to do this on your own. Remember, professional movers cannot move live plants. And if you are moving across state lines, you will need to check in whether you can bring these plants into the state. If you do decide to do this, you will have to pull up the plant with the root system and plant this into a planter that you move in your personal vehicle. Keep in mind, that some plants do not handle a transplant and may die along the way.

While moving your backyard with you can be done, many people find that the cost and effort associated with doing this, simply is not worth it. If you get to this point, look at your new backyard as a blank slate that you can crate whatever you want with it and starting new. Who knows, you may create something that is even better!
