What is Moving Insurance?
Moving insurance is just what it sounds like. This is a type of insurance that you can get to cover your items when moving. Even the best of movers cannot say that unforeseen mishaps don’t happen, they do. In these events moving insurance is meant to cover the loss that you suffer.
Do You Really Need This?
Do you really need moving insurance? This is the big question that people ask. The US Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration states that moving companies are liable for the goods that they are moving. Moving companies cannot damage possessions and state that they have no responsibility. It simply doesn’t work that way.
Moving companies will over a full value or released value of coverage for those items that are being moved. This is not insurance! It simply means that the moving company will pay you either the full value of the item that is damaged or the released value which can be a few cents on the pound for the item.
So, do you need moving insurance? It is up to you whether to get this or not. However, be sure that you are checking your renter’s insurance and homeowner’s insurance policy. Some companies include moving insurance that can be used one time for a move. You may have this and not even know.
