Ditch Unwanted Items Before a Move
Posted on: Wednesday, April 25th, 2018We have all heard the advice to clear clutter before a move, after all, that is one of the top pieces of advice that we here at Dunmar Moving give people as well. However, what most people don’t realize is that we are talking about doing more than simply throwing it away. The old saying that one man’s junk is another man’s treasure is completely true. So why throw something away when you could not only brighten the day of someone else, but possibly make a bit of money from it?
We are going to highlight some of the methods that you can use to ditch those unwanted items in time before your move. Whether you choose to one or all of these, be sure to plan a date for doing this that is well before the date movers come to your home!
- Get hands on and have a garage or yard sale. You will find that this is perhaps one of the fastest ways for getting rid of those items that you no longer need or want.
- Add a booth to your local flea market to get rid of your items. Keep in mind though that you may have to pay for the booth and it will require traveling.
- Post the items in an online auction to get rid of. Ebay and Craigslist are just two options to consider.
- If you do not want to make money with these items, then donate these to charity. Habitat for Humanity is always looking for gently used furniture and appliances to help those who are less fortunate. For your clothing, knick knacks and shoes, consider donating to the Salvation Army or Goodwill.
Of course, if you find that there are some items that you simply do not see anyone wanting, then be sure to toss it. In the end, whether you have a sale, donate or trash these items, you are making your move a bit easier for everyone!
